The Joint Committee on the Conduct and Expenditures of the War, to whom was referred the resolution of Congress instructing them to investigate the late massacre at Fort Pillow. 128 pages. BOUND WITH: Report 68. Returned Prisoners. Illustrated with some b/w engravings of wounded prisoners. 34 pages. Slim 8vo, original green cloth, cloth lightly soiled and with a few tiny wormholes in cover; some pages at front dampstained at lower margin, not affecting the plates. (Washington: Government Printing Office, 1864). First edition.<br/> <br/> "The whole slaughter of the garrison (63% killed and wounded), arising out of the incapacity of its commander, gave rise to unfair charges that the Confederates had committed a massacre." Dictionary of American History, Vol. IV, p. 272. The Confederates were led by Nathan Bedford Forrest. 38th Congress, 1st Session, Senate, Rep. Com. Nos. 63 and 68.<br/> <br/>
