BOUND WITH: Report 68. Returned Prisoners. Illustrated with some b/w engravings of wounded prisoners. 34 pages. Slim 8vo, original green cloth, cloth lightly soiled and with a few tiny wormholes in cover; some pages at front dampstained at lower margin, not affecting the plates. (Washington: Government Printing Office, 1864). First edition.<br/> <br/> "The whole slaughter of the garrison (63% killed and wounded), arising out of the incapacity of its commander, gave rise to unfair charges that the Confederates had committed a massacre." Dictionary of American History, Vol. IV, p. 272. The Confederates were led by Nathan Bedford Forrest. 38th Congress, 1st Session, Senate, Rep. Com. Nos. 63 and 68.<br/> <br/>
