Book Condition: Good +; paint splatter on the rear board top; slight foxing; shelfwear to head, tail, and tips; light mottling to front board. No DJ. Black grained cloth boards and spine with tarnished gilt lettering on the spine. 120 pp 4to. The purpose of this study has been to examine Fort Scott's history in the years immediately preceding and during the Civil War with some attention to the social and economic life of the town from its Indian outpost days of 1842 through 1872. Chapters are; The Days of the Indian Fort 1842-1855, The Era of Border Strife Before the War 1856-April 15, 1861, The War Years 1861-1865, Church, School, Social and Business Life After the War 1866-1872, A Roster of Commanding Officers at Fort Scott. Laid in is a pamphlet -History of U.S. 1st Dragoons, Founders of Fort Scott, KS from Historic Preservation Association of Bourbon County. A clean very presentable copy.
