Sir Hugh Walpole (1884-1941) was a prolific English novelist, perhaps best known for his well-crafted novels with distinct plotting. 'Fortitude' was first published in 1913. This Modern Library reprint edition with an introduction by the author. --- In Toledano spine 8 / red cloth / gilt titling on black spine & cover blocks / black topstain / grey Kent endpapers / jacket style l, verso blank. Likely published c.1963-66 (though 1930 date appears in book). ML #178.1. --- With prior owner's inked notations to title page, general dulling to cover & spine gilding, else a tightly-bound, clean copy. Price-clipped dust jacket with plenty of chips and tears to extremities but remaining mostly intact and protected in removable archival mylar protector.; 12mo - 7 to 7-1/2 in. tall; xiv, 497 pages .
