About This Item

Trumpet/Scholastic, 1994. Scholastic Edition 1st Printing. Soft cover. As New/No Jacket Issued. Trina Schart Hyman. CONDITION: UNREAD, but not quite perfect, 1994 Trumpet/SCholastic paperback, SCholastic edition, first printing. PROBLEM: A 'near-crease" bottom front cover corner tip. The vibrant colors by Ms. Hyman will draw you in and the monkey will make you laugh. ALSO: there appear to be 2 signatures inside front cover, but I'm not sure that the 26 years since they were put there are not just part of the publishing process. I'll leave it to you. (See scan) CONTENT: Various reviews: his original folktale set in Cameroon is full of adventure and sly humor. Lloyd Alexander's story of a young man visiting -- and then becoming -- the village fortune-teller is brought to vibrant life with some of Caldecott Medalist Trina Schart Hyman's most memorable artwork. Both children and adults will relish The Fortune-tellers."A funny, playful story that evokes the irony of the human condition." -- Booklist, starred review"Alexander narrates his original tale with folkloric verve and his own mellow brand of irony;Hyman realizes the African setting in...splendid illustrations. A winning tale, superlatively presented." -- Kirkus Reviews, pointerreviewLloyd Alexander's many achievements include a Newbery Medal, a Newbery Honor Medal, and the National Book Award.Trina Schart Hyman won the Caldecott Medal for her illustrations. The is a wonderful short story, that apparently the author had written years before and forgot about until clearing out his attic. When the artist read the story, she thought she could mold it around her artwork of the African country of Cameroon. The result is wonderful! Clever story-telling, with even more clever illustrations.
