About This Item

Berkeley, CA: University of California Press. Very Good with no dust jacket. 1997. First Edition. Cloth. Brown cloth over boards with paste down label on spine. Book is missing microfiche insert from rear cover corner pocket. Some scuffing and mild soiling to boards. The three volume set (of which this is Volume 2 ONLY) comprises Volume 31 of the University of California Press' California Studies in the History of Art series. Meticulously constructed and published in a limited run of 1000 sets, the portfolio is printed on 60-lb. St. Lawrence Matte acid-free paper. The binding features Iris, a 100 percent solvent-free rayon cloth made from natural fibers applied over binder's board of .098 thickness with a neutral pH. The title page display type is taken from the letterpress proofs of Jan van Krimpen's Romulus, designed for the Monotype Company in 1936. This volume contains some 600 illustrations including new photographs of the Forum of Trajan and reproductions of drawings made by scholars and architects of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The result of twenty-five years of research, this is a beautiful piece of scholarship on the last, largest, and most splendid of the early imperial forums. ; B&W Photographs and illustrations; Folio 13" - 23" tall; 114 pp .
