About This Item

New York, New York, U.S.A.: Bobbs-Merrill Company, 1943. First Edition Later Printing . Hardcover. Good/Good. Rand's first magnum opus which popularized her philosophy of Objectivism in 1943. Never out of print over the ensuring decades, this is the FIRST EDITION bound in red cloth with gilt to front & spine, with all the requisite error points. This is a Later Printing, though, as it has no edition statement & a price or $6.00, not $3.00; NOT the new centennial edition. It is also an Ex-Lib copy, with the usual stamps & markings in the front matter only (no stamps on outside page edges). Condition is thus only Good: binding strong & secure, pages lightly but evenly tanned. Gilt lettering bright, not faded, First Issue red boards bright, with residue & stains from old tape used to secure DJ to book. The DJ itself is also Good, with spine fading, rubbing to extremities, & some small chips. Old call letter sticker from library on lower spine. The old library mylar has been removed & replaced with a new clear cover. Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive from us, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Synopsis

When The Fountainhead was first published, Ayn Rand 's daringly original literary vision and her groundbreaking philosophy, Objectivism, won immediate worldwide interest and acclaim. This instant classic is the story of an intransigent young architect, his violent battle against conventional standards, and his explosive love affair with a beautiful woman who struggles to defeat him. This edition contains a special Afterword by Rand's literary executor, Leonard Peikoff which includes excerpts from Ayn Rand's own notes on the making of The Fountainhead . As fresh today as it was then, here is a novel about a hero—and about those who try to destroy him.
