Pages are brittle and many are detached from binding, Many items are no longer attached to the pages, as the paste has dried and released, cover on one volume is moisture damaged. . 37x29.5 cm.. Alfred Claparede was prominent Swiss diplomat who, in the the late 1880s served as ambassador from the Swiss Confederation to the German Empire and then to The United States. While serving in those posts he kept scrapbooks of various sorts of memorabilia, mainly invitations to meetings and social events. The material from Berlin consists of three books with total of 76 leaves, all having material pasted in. The Washington scrapbook contains 11 leaves with material pasted in and 17 blank leaves. Several items relate to the centennial celebration of George Also included are two later documents relating to Claparede’s retirement in the early 20th century. Heavy set, will require extra shipping. weight: 23.8 lb.
