Sir Thomas Erskine Perry (1806 – 1882), Liberal politician and judge in India. After serving as chief justice of the supreme court in Bombay and as a Member of Parliament in Britain, he served as a member of the Council of India for 21 years. “I must pay some of my bills in London, they are continually dunning me, and independently of the bore, it is rather a disgrace.” “I met Johny Dingwall & his wife the other day at the French play. The ‘sweet beef’ is more gross and greasy than ever, whilst his lady looks very charming and fascinating. The pair look like nothing else but a plat of fat boiling beef side by side to a delicate little entree of cotelettes d’agneau ...”
