Translation of novella published in Italian in 1960, set amid tensions between Italian fascists and socialists in post-war Switzerland. 8vo, black paper over boards with purple cloth quarter, silver and blue gilt lettering on spine and decoration, blue end papers, rough-cut fore-edge, practically no visible shelf wear, rear hinge loose inside rfep. Initials of former owner and date May 1961 written on half-title, pages unmarked. Laid-in photographic portrait of Silone clipped from a newspaper.
