Franzen -Historian Robert Aron's large book is a spirited,satisfying rehash of France during the Normandy assault onwards through liberation, much of it served in the narrative-newsreel manner of American reportage,determinedly objective & its share of quirky fact,odd picture of Petain pridefully watery-eyed ever Free French heroics,black comedy of Hitler's lunatic demand on Paris -back & forth by the Wehrmacht's General Choltitz.
