About This Item

London, England: Printed for the author by Lund Humphries, 1950. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine. 8vo 8" - 9" tall. Laid in is a folded page of a leading bookseller's offering of this book, undated, but from perhaps the 1990s, complete with price ($135.00)! Sterling condition hardcover copy, bound handsomely in original publisher's cloth, with unbruised tips, tight binding, and clean internals, showing only very slight shelf- and edge-wear; not ex-library, with neither underlining nor highlighting anywhere. Dubbed by some almost a heroic work invoking nearly 2,000 French bookbinders and binderies, and includes a geographical listing of bookbinders working outside Paris, being a fine dictionary of French bookbinders in which are gathered the (often very scant) available data about their activity. Forty lovely plates. xiv + 1-228 pp.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.
