Boston: Knight and Millet. Very Good. 1903. Hardcover. 300 p. 21 cm. Volume I of two, only. Sound and square binding in cloth-covered boards with gilt stamped titles and decoration. Bottom corners are softened. Light rub wear to edges. A few tiny white spots on lower board. Bookplate on front pastedown endpaper. Inside pages have some offsetting opposite the plates, but are overall clean and unmarked, with some toning. Describes the development of architectural styles in France, as well as a history of the greatest buildings representing these styles. Illustrated with tissue-guarded black and white photographic plates. There is a bookplate of Montreal surgeon Francis J. Shepherd on the front endpaper. A calling card belonging to Lady Galt (xxxxx Galt, wife of Alexander Tilloch Galt), with a gift note in her handwriting, is laid in. .
