About This Item

New York: Praeger Publishers, 1970. Revised Edition. Hardcover. VG (May have average aging, otherwise clean.). Red-orange cloth, with green title block and gilt letters on spine, white & color illus. dust jacket, xi, 49 pp. + 8 color and 96 bw plates. "A comprehensive study of the greatly prized tin-glazed pottery of France. Faience wares were produced during the most brilliant periods in the history of French pottery, and they reflect a characteristically French inventiveness and good taste. The author skillfully takes the reader through the various stages of the development of faience from the earliest times -- by way of the superb Nevers polychrome wares of the seventeenth century, the austere products of Rouen, and the delightful fantasies of Moustiers -- to the graceful and colorful late-eighteenth-century enameled wares of Strasbourg, Niderviller, Sceaux, and Marseilles. This new, revised edition includes four additional color plates, and several black-and-white plates have been replaced." (dj).
