Late 19th century marbled boards. With 8 lithographed plates, of which one, a sepia tinted plate of pearls, in a mezzotint manner, some figures in the text. ¶ A most interesting bi-weekly demonstrating the state of the art of experimental biology, surgery and some medicine. Comprises articles, reports, book reviews, etc. Some topics: anaesthesia, electricity, neuranatomy, cholera, orthopaedics, public health. To name but a few authors: Karl Ernst von Baer (Kaspische Studien), R. Virchow (Congentitale Nierenwassersucht, J. Dalton, O. Schmidt, J. Snow, Remak, Bretonneau, de Qutrefages, R. Leuckart, Kussmaul, Brown Sequart, Czermak, Meckel, Moleschott, G.J. Mulder, and many others who have contributed to the growth of life sciences that time. This series was founded by Ludwig Friedrich von Froriep in 1821 under the title Notizen aus dem Gebiete..... In 1849, after the publication of vol. 100 Robert Froriep changed the title in Tagesberichte über die Forschrite der Natur- und Heilkunde (1850-1852). In 1856 a new series was started under its old name, of which the present tomes are the first two volumes. With the death of the editor in 1861, the series was halted.
