About This Item
New York: Simon and Schuster, 1941. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. An Inner Sanctum Mystery. Fine first edition. Binding square and tight. Pages clean. Jacket not price clipped. Minor wear to spine ends and extremities. Very slight rubbing. One tiny closed tear to bottom of back cover. Great illustration of "The Author at Work" by Vertes. Wildly entertaining murder mystery set in a burlesque theatre, written by the famous stripper. Ms Lee was the inspiration for the Broadway musical "Gypsy" and considerable exposure on television in her later years. This book, which may have been ghost written by (or with) Craig Rice, was one of two mystery novels credited to Lee, and was the basis for the film "Lady of Burlesque" with Barbara Stanwyck in the title role. A lovely and uncommon book.
