Illustrated with three color plates and numerous black and white line drawings by Merle T. Coxe. Orange cloth boards with chock design and title stamped in black to front and black title to spine. Light soilling to boards. Decorated endpapers. Plate opposite page 91 disbound but present. Unmarked interior. MAY JUSTUS (1898-1989) was the daughter of a schoolteacher, and the author of numerous children's books between 1927 and 1980. Most of her books were set in her native Appalachia, and many reflected her own experiences as a young schoolteacher.
