About This Item
New York: Daniel Giraud Elliot, 1870-1872. First printing. Near Fine. Joseph Wolf. Hand colored lithograph after Joseph Wolf and J.G Keulmans, printed by P.W.M. Trap. 19 1/2 x 24 5/8". Near fine condition. Just a slight bend to right edge of paper and 2 faint spots at the bottom of the sheet. Finished by the printer with gum Arabic which gives a rich sheen. Common name is the Red Jungle Fowl. A magnificent print from Elliot's great work "A Monograph of the Phasianidae or Family of the Pheasants". The large size and beautiful coloring rank Wolf's prints with Audubon or Lear. The Pheasant family of birds are the original source of all domestic poultry. Published in parts from 1870-1872.
