Urbana: University of Illinois Press. Good with no dust jacket. 1963. First Edition. Hardcover. An ex-library copy of D. Alexander Brown's description of the so-called Galvanized Yankees. These former Confederate Soldiers were recruited from Union prison camps in the North and sent to fight Indians in the American West. The men were promised that they would not be sent to the South to fight their former fellow Confederates. With a section of black & white photos and drawings and a two-page map to rear of volume, printed on buff leaves. --- Rebound for the library in durable blue buckram with spine titling in white. Textblock from the first edition of this work. --- Evidence of previous ownership by the Denver Public Library consists of pocket, stickers, serial numbers and rubberstampings (including de-accession statement). Also with a prior owner's infrequent notations in red ink. Original dust jacket flap has been cut out and pasted to front endpaper.; Ex-Library; Octavo - 8 to 9 in. tall; (6), 243, (4) pages .
