About This Item
(London: Rowland Ward, 1908). Royal 8vo; original red buckram, lettered in gilt on spine and upper cover; decorative endpapers; pp. xix + (i) + 484, incl. index; publisher's catalogue; plates; illustrations in text. Cloth a little stippled and rubbed, with trace of wear to extremities of sunned spine; some foxing to endpapers and outermost leaves. Good condition; very good internally. (Czech: A Bibliography of African Big Game Hunting Books, 1785 to 1999, p. 172) "An excellent work that covers the natural history of both large and small game animals of Africa. Lydekker utilized segments of text he had written for The Great and Small Game of Africa edited by H. A. Bryden, with much new material added. Especially interesting are the hunting vignettes related by numerous sportsmen such as Selous, Neumann, Powell-Cotton and others from books and journal articles." - Kenneth Czech .
