Amsterdam: Michiel de Groot, 1670. Softcover. Good. Lot of Five Pamphlets, all octavos in wraps. In 17th-Century Dutch. Loose translations in English (provided by a native Dutch speaker) as follows:

1. "The Dutch Gardener"..Describing all kinds of "prince-like", royal gardens showing how to plan, sow and decorate with trees, flowers and herbal plants. Illustrations depict garden layouts, plans for flower beds, etc. Note: Van Groen was the master gardener for the Prince of Orange.

Plain wraps. 15 full page copper plate engravings, including two double page. 40 pages. Some llight wear to wraps, binding tight. Pages ragged at front edge, some light staining to front margins, light foxing, some to illustrations.

2. "Two Hundred Plans for lovers of nurseries and gardens." Short text with 57 full page engravings showing garden layouts, plans for pergolas, lattice work, mazes and sundials. 52 pages, plain wraps, binding tight with light foxing.

3. "The Sensible Gardener for the Twelve Months of the Year." How to gather and grow all kinds of crops--vegetables, fruits, flowers, herbs, roots and seeds in a timely fashion. Also the healthful properties of fruits, etc. Described by P. Nyland, a medical doctor.
Plain wraps. 84 pages. Two text engravings. Some foxing, mostly to margins. Binding tight.

4 "The Medicine-Shop of the Experienced Housekeeper". Basically a manual for making and preparing "beneficial medicines" for the ailment of both people and animals. Includes instruction on how to extract and distill from several flowers and herbs useful and "good smelling" waters.
Plain wraps. 38 pages. Engraved title page. Front edge ragged, affecting some margins, and some have light stains, text clean.

5. "The Industrious Bee-Keeper, Instructing how one can govern and maintain bees with purpose and profit....also how one, in a short and capable way can gather, prepare and store honey and wax. Marbled paper wraps. 14 pages. Engraved title page. Front edge of pages a little ragged, some light staining to margins. Note: The original works were published by Marcus Doornick in Amsterdam. In 1668 he sold his rights to Michiel de Groot. Most of the pamphlets show a printed extract of "de Privilegie" on the obverse of the title page, which shows de Groot had obtained the rights [Privilegie] to publish the works. The Doornick printings were quartos, published in vellum or leather bindings with larger engravings and were no doubt costly productions, whereas these smaller printings would sell to a wider audience.
