Orange cloth, title stamped in silver on spine. Illustrated endpapers. Even toning throughout, light wear to cloth, a very good example. In the publisher's first state dust jacket, price-clipped, light sunning to spine, short closed tear to front panel, shelf wear, a very good example. Dust jacket illustrations by Broom Lynne. (Cross & Ravenscroft-Hulme A.44a) Inscribed on the half-title: "To Bar - Christmas of '48. From Sandy + Nan. With love." Provenance: From the Bush Family Estate in Kennebunkport, ME. In 1946, this work received the Royal Society of Literature's Heinemann Award.
