About This Item
New York, Charles Scribner's Sons, 1937. . First US edition, first printing; author's presentation copy; 8vo; publisher's green cloth, rules and titles to upper board and spine gilt; with the pictorial dust jacket; A lovely copy in the tanned dust jacket.
With the author's elaborate multicoloured, signed presentation inscription to the front free endpaper, 'for Walleye affectionately, eccentrically, horticulturally and exotically from Edward James'. Beneath the inscription is a beautiful four colour ink drawing of a root system and green shoots, the plant winding its way underling the author's signature. There are apparently variant dust jacket designs for this publication; the present example being that with the Paul Tchelitchew portrait on the upper panel.
