About This Item

London: Cinema Theatre Association, 1996. 1st ed.. Paperback large wide octavo, very good condition, black & white text-photos, single-colour illustrations inside covers, corner tips covers & spine little creased, edges lightly toned, minor edgewear. 224 pp. About the Gaumont cinemas in Britain. The Gaumont name was gradually replaced by that of Odeon after the two circuits merged and it disappeared in 1987. The book is well-illustrated with photos of the cinemas as well as examples of advertising and publicity, and recalls the history of the circuit as well as the foundation and often turbulent life of its parent company, the Gaumont-British Picture Corporation. Included is a detailed listing of more than 400 cinemas that were part of the Gaumont circuit, and the titles of all the films given the Gaumont circuit release from 1932 onwards. The author is a film historian.
