Thomas Bewick (1753-1828) was an English wood engraver and natural history author. He is much admired today for the quality of his wood engravings and is usually considered as the founder of wood engravings. This book contains many examples of such wood engraving.
This History is comprehensive dealing with 260 mammals from across the world and is particularly thorough on domestic animals.

Later ornate marbled endpapers. All edges marbled.
