Published upon an exhibition at the Brooklyn museum, and written by The Brooklyn Museumâs curator of Costumes and Textiles, Elizabeth Ann Coleman, includes memoirs of Jamesâ life and working habits complemented by essays by his friends and clients Bill Cunningham, Mrs. William Randolph Hearst, Jr. and Anne, Countess of Rosse. This catalog-raisonne of Jamesâ work will document over 600 designs created during his 45-year career. This is the first effort of its kind, and one which should serve as a prototype for future studies of the art of couture.
