Kinabalu & Kew, 1998. Second edition, now out of print. Very well illustrated, including watercolours by Pandora Sellars and Carol Woodin, and many colour photographs of plants in the wild, large octavo, pp x, 428, fore-edge very slightly foxed, dustwrapper a little age-toned, and very slightly worn, endpapers a little marked, otherwise a very good copy in a very slightly worn slipcase. Signed by the author. [Paphiopedilums are, and have been since the early nineteenth century, one of the most popular of all orchid groups and are now widely grown throughout the world. There are almost 70 known species, all of which have their own attractive qualities appealing to growers, but many species are rare in the wild. Recent evidence has been synthesized to produce a modern classification of the genus. Chapters on the hybridization, cultivation (by Michael Tibbes), and conservation are also included. This treatment is a framework for future research as well as a sound guide to growers of these endlessly fascinating orchids.] [N.B. Book is very heavy ! Will make up a 3 kilo parcel when packed, so extra postage rates will apply]. Signed by Author. Cloth. Very Good/Slightly Worn & Faded.

Description:
Chatwin Books, 2021. First Edition. Trade Paperback. New. New! 'I know from my own experience that an evening spent tending my garden, after another incomprehensible day, brings a strength and calmness that no other activity can match. Is it the qualities associated with gardening, such as nurturing and the hard work of hands and heart, that are deficient in our culture? Here, in luminous prose, is the best of her work from those years, ranging from hands-on advice for gardeners and would-be gardeners to poetically charged, often wry, insights into life in the tradition…
