George Washington Engraved Print after Gilbert Stuart Painting; W. Momberger Border: George Washington Engraving

This is a wonderful, over-sized print of GEORGE WASHINGTON after the famous 1796 painting by Gilbert Stuart. Engraving on paper; dated 1866. The engraving features a beautifully decorated border designed by W. Momberger. The four corner vignettes depict Washington's most significant military battles and victories of the Revolutionary War: Trenton, Princeton, Valley Forge, and Cornwallis's surrender at Yorktown. The top-center figure is of Washington as President; the bottom-center figure is of Washington as a plantation owner.

The entire sheet measures 23" tall x 17 7/8" wide. The border around the engraving measures 17 1/2" tall x 13 7/8" wide. The engraving itself measures 13 1/4" tall x 10 1/4" wide.

Condition:
The sheet as a whole is very clean with no stains or writing. There are a few tiny, shallow impressions within the left-hand border; there is a thin, shallow 1" impression within the right-hand border. In the right-hand outer margin (outside of the border) are a few tiny impressions, and a slightly larger one where the paper has broken through resulting in a tiny tear (see photo). There are no condition issues with the engraving itself. Small 1/2" tear at the bottom edge of the sheet.
