Plomteux, 1771. Leather Binding. Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. A delightful small 18th-century French edition of Virgil in a period binding. Bound in full brown 18th-century speckled calf, spine with raised bands, red morocco label, and gilt floral tooling, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers (some rubbing to spine tips, corners and edges; front outer hinge starting; ome wear to text edges; ink inscription). Remains of the bookplate of Charles Carron.

Full mottle calf bordered in gilt, five raised bands, morocco lettering piece, five compartments decorated in gilt, gilt turn-ins, marbled endpapers. Bound without the plates, else a very good handsome copy, some offsetting to text, binding rubbed at the extremities.. 347, [1] pp. Head and tail pieces. Lacking plates. 4to. Latin and French on opposite pages. An excellent translation, which first appeared in 1769, and made Delille (1738-1813) quite famous. The translation when through numerous editions in the following year and thereafter. Brunet IV, 1303 (1st). Mambelli 1275.

Bound in contemporary tree-calf, contrasting black morocco lettering-piece, spine richly gilt. Lightly rubbed. Inked ownership initials to FEP, internally clean and crisp. A handsomely bound copy of a late eighteenth-century edition of French poet Jacques Delille's (1738-1813) translation of Classical Roman poet Publius Vergilius Maro's (70-19BC) agricultural epic, the Georgics. . 8vo.

Name neatly excised from bottom of the title page, small contemporary bookplate of "Fr. Gay", corners a little rubbed, a pleasing, near fine volume.
