Secker & Warburg,, [1948-49]. 2 vols., 8vo., Best Edition, on laid paper, with a plate and two large folding facsimiles of musical scores, some light spotting and offsetting from fold-ins to free endpapers; original blue cloth, gilt backs, edges a trifle dusty else a very good, clean set in unclipped dustwrapper, the latter lightly frayed with minor loss (not affecting lettering) at heads and tails of backstrips. This set comprises Vol. I (second and best edition, 1948) and Vol. II (first edition 1949). The first volume (1944) was substantially revised for this second and best edition. 'The nearest approach to a definitive critical study yet written' (Dunne). SCARCE, ESPECIALLY IN THIS CONDITION. Dunne, H116 and H128 respectively; NCBEL, III, p. 584.
