About This Item

Parigi [= Paris]: Teofilo Barrois [= Theophile Barrois], 1785. Later edition. Hardcover. Good. 2 vol. 8vo. [5], ii-viii, [1], 2-326, [2]; [5], 2-333, [1], [2] (pages of publisher's advertisements), [2] pp. Half later sheep (ca. 1830) over peach paper boards with the spines in six compartments, a black label lettered in gilt on each spine with a gilt volume number on each spines; all edges decoratively stained green. Beautiful marbled endpapers and pastedowns. Printed in Paris but the text in Italian (the work's original language). Encyclopedia Britannica, "Gerusalemme Liberata: Work by Tasso". Tasso was a poet of the late renaissance, and wrote in Italy. This work is by far his most famous one. It is an epic poem that tells the story of the capture of Jerusalem from the Turks during the First Crusade. Significant rubbing to the extremities, a bookplate on each first blank leaf and the pageblocks mildly wrinkled.
