Garden City: Doubleday, 1952. First edition. hardcover. A fine copy in black cloth with silver spine stamping in a very bright very good jacket with wear to the spine crown and heal. A novel depicting the lives of Texans in 1950s Texas. The novel is centered around the land tycoon Bick Benedict, the sleazy rich oil baron Jett Rink, and Bick's lovely wife and Jett's unrequited love, Leslie. Basis for the big screen film directed by George Stevens (Oscar winner for Best Director) that starred James Dean, Elizabeth Taylor, Carroll Baker, Rock Hudson, Chill Wills and Dennis Hopper, among others. Giant was the last of James Dean's three films as a leading actor, and earned him his second and last Academy Award nomination- he was killed in a car crash before the film was released.
