About This Item
London: Richard Bentley, 1868. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Good. Blue cloth boards with bevelled edges and blind rules to both faces. Gilt lettering and design to the spine. Maroon endpapers. [xii] + 472pp of text, appendix and index. The boards are rubbed and at the extremities. The top of the spine is chipped and torn and the spine base is scuffed. There is a library stamp to the front pastedown and another to the title page. There is a ref no stamped to the title page and a pencilled ref no. to both the front pastedown and to the ffep. The binding is tight but there are two or three between-section binding cracks. Some of the leaves have been clumsily cut and a few leaves remain uncut. The prelims and the first 20pp or so and the last 12pp as well as the index are foxed. An extremely rare first edition that would benefit from a touch of restoration.
