From their backwoods cabin in the Gunflint range of Northeastern Minnesota, the author and her husband first encountered the starving deer they named Peter, and over the next four years they were able to closely observd him and his mate and descendants, as well as other wild animals of the bush country near the Canadian border. Illustrated with drawings by Adrian Hoover. 210 pp.
