Hartford: American Publishing Co, 1873. First Edition, Early Printing, Corrected State. Hardcover. Octavo, [i]-xvi, 17-[576] pages. In Very Good minus condition. Rebound in blue cloth with gilt lettering on spine. Boards have mild edge wear and shelf wear. Title misspelled on binding. Textblock has bookplate on front endpaper, heavy toning to original endpapers, light brown staining to forward pages, and mark in pen on dedication page. . Early Printing indicated by final illustration numbered "211" on page xvi, "Hallelujah" with no comma on fifth line from bottom of page 246, period after "Dr. Jackson" on page 280, and no illustration on page 403. Corrected State indicated by no repetition of lines on pages 351-353. Shelved Room A. BAL 3357. 1372546. Special Collections.

Synopsis

The Gilded Age: A Tale of Today was written by Mark Twain and Charles Warner in 1873. This novel by is the only one that Twain wrote a collaborator. This novel focuses on the corruption and big business ventures of post-Civil War America. A biting satire, this novel gave the era it's name in history: The Gilded Age.
