1818. Stipple engraving. 205mm by 140mm (platemark). Rare Italian engraving of Laperouse. From 'Serie di Vite e Ritratti de Famosi Personaggi degli ultimi tempi' published in Milan 1815-1819.
Jean Francois de Galaup, comte de La P'rouse (1741-1788?) was a French Navy officer and explorer whose expedition vanished in Oceania. Jean-Franµois Bosio (1764-1827) was a French artist. He spent some time working in Italy, where he used the name Giovanni Battista Bosio.Light waterstain at the bottom of the sheet, well below the platemark. Faint movement in the paper.
