About This Item
Londonfrontispiece of the t: W.H. Harrison, 1881. Book. Illus. by frontispiece of the theatre setting, several pages of music . Very Good. Hardcover. 1st Edition. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. Original red cloth with only a hint of edge wear, bright gilt title on the slightly dulled spine. Title in gilt also on the front board, and all edges gilt. Solid hinges. Near fine inside with no foxing, no browning and no stains. Inside hinge paper slightly cracked with no loss to the strength of the hinge. Burton was the most famous explorer and adventurer of his time, to Mecca and in search of the mouth of the Nile River. This is an unusual title, quite scarce, in which he compares the Christian themes with Islam. And he complains of Oberammergau, which was not really ready for a large influx of tourists. Handsome copy, protected in a clear,, mylar sleeve. .
