About This Item

Venetia, Lodovico Avanzo, 1567. Venetia, Domenico Nicolino, 1564. USTC 837830. *** In-8 de (16), 156 ff.. Vélin. Levin Lemne (1505-68), a Dutch physician and philosopher, gathered in this collection all sorts of facts, both true and fantastic, taken from ancient authors - Hebrew, Greek, Latin and Arabic - which he presents and comments on in a rather interesting way. "It is a most heteregenous collection, heteregenously piled together ... The collection is a very curious one, notwithstanding, and furnishes good instances of popular ideas about natural things current three hundred years ago." Ferguson, Books of Secrets, I, p. 10. USTC 837829. Bound with : - LEMNIUS. Upper hinge cracked, lack of vellum on the hedge of the first board, still a good copy. USTC 837830. - -.
