About This Item
Secker & Warburg, London, 1957. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/Good. Illustrator: Lynton Lamb -- Cover Art. Green coloured boards with silver coloured titles to the back strip. A little bumping to the head and to the heel of the spine and a very minor amount of shelfwear to the lower book edges. Browning, dust marks and slight foxing to the top paper edge. Offset tanning to the endpapers. Original bookseller's sticker to the lower right-hand corner of the front paste down. Illustrated dust wrapper, by Lynton Lamb, with black and white coloured titles to the front panel and black coloured titles to the spine. The dust wrapper is rubbed and slightly faded. The dust wrapper corners are rubbed and chipped as is the top dust wrapper spine edge. Clipping of the dust wrapper, front fold over, lower right-hand corner. The major fault with the dust wrapper is the back panel which looks like it has had moisture/fluid on it at some stage causing a "ripple effect". This moisture has not seeped through to the verso of the dust wrapper. The story of two brothers who are heirs to a ranch in the New Mexico desert amongst the Navajo. One brother, George, the ranch and its environs are everything, the other brother, Alexander, is restless and dissatisfied. George marries a woman from the city who eventually runs off with Alexander . After Alexander and Perrette have left the ranch, it is the contrasting lives of the two brothers which form basis of the story, and how "... the one deteriorated with success, and how the other, left behind with the Indians, grew with their help out of bitterness to serenity.". Authors first work. This is the first UK edition. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 278 pages, last blank.. Dust Jacket price-clipped. Please refer to accompanying picture (s).
