Godey, issue #1 = volume LXIX (1864), August; issue #2 = volume LXX (1865), April. "No matter how gifted or accomplished a lady may be by birth or education, the Lady's Book contains some useful information or other that will add to her grace and knowledge."--Field and Fireside Gazette, New York. A sampling of the articles' authors includes William E. Pabor (poet, founder of the town of Fruita, CO); George Cooper (NYC poet, remembered for his song lyrics, many of which were put to music by Stephen Foster); and Caroline Orne (poet, and first librarian of the public library in Cambridge, MA). The Illinois Central Railroad Company advertises on both rear covers: "One million acres of superior farming lands" for sale along their right of way--a 40-acre tract cost $432. 6 5/8" x 10 3/8", #1 = 83 pp., #2 = 84 pp. GOOD condition. Each in it's own clear plastic bag. Page edges = dog eared, yet pages whole, bindings tight, no tears only mark is penciled name on each front cover. Price is for 2 issues.
