Apart from the 8 pages central photographic section in colour, the rest of the book is profusely illustrated with black-and-white photographs, and some reproductions of documents and maps. Colour illustrated dustwrapper. The only damage to the book is a trace of foxing to the top edge of the text block. The book is a popular history of study of the Gold Coast, from the early 19th century, when John Oxley set out to find the mouth of a large river that flowed into Moreton Bay, to the present day. The discussion of the early days is a chronological exposition of the exploration and the 1st settlements on the coast. This account of the period of the 1920s is a fascinating story of the gradual growth of commercial centres, ports and communications in an area.
