Over 150 illustrations-- both color plates and black and white drawings-- which have been reproduced with fidelity to the originals.The selection covers the work of many artists in a whole spectrum of subject matter and style. Olive-green cloth with bright and sharp gilt titles to spine is very clean, with corner tips and spine head and heel rubbed. Solid and tight sewn binding with red and gold endbands. Internals As New. Jacket has slight wear to spine head. From the 1860s to the 1930s there was a great flowering of the illustrator's art in England and America. Artists such as Kate Greenaway, Wilcox Smith, Arthur Rackham, Edmund Dulac, and the Robinson brothers revolutionized the art of children's book illustration. Included are biographies of more than 50 artists who helped create the Golden Age, including some lesser know names such as Margaret Tarrant, L. Leslie Brooke, and others.
