About This Item
London : J. M. Dent, 1898. 2nd Edition . Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 16mo - over 5¾ - 6¾" tall. The page after the title page reads in middle English, Marcvs Avrelivs Antoninus The Roman Emperor, His Meditiations concerning Himselfe: Treating of a Natvrall Mans happineffe; Wherein it confifteth, and of the meanes to attaine unto it. Translated ovt of theOriginall Greeke; with notes:by Meric Casavbon, B. of D. and Prebendarie of Christ Chursch Canterbury The fecond Edition; with Table containing the princapall matters in the Booke. ECCLVS 18.8. What is man, and whereto ferveth he? What is his good, and what is his euill. LONDON, Printed by M. Flesher, for Richard Mynne, in Littloe Britaine at the Signe of S. Paul. M DC XXXV. This rare and fragile book was published in 1898 by J. M. Dent and Co. Aldine House Lonndon E.C. Book is very clean but very fragile. The first five leaves have separated from the binding and all leaves are brittle, which doesn't detract from the overall book. Book is bound black leather over boards and has a fine blind stamp of an owl on the front. Spine has fine gilded lettering and decorations. To my knowledge, this rare find is the only copy of this book on record and is an important document as to the thoughts of the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius (AD 121-AD180) which was translated from the Greek. Very rare.
