Golden Cockerel Press, 1943. One of 30 copies bound in full Morocco and signed by Somerset De Chair. A very good+ copy. Wear to extremities with tanning to spine & some offsetting to boards. Internally deckle edge handmade paper leaves - all in very good+ condition with no inscriptions. Map endpapers original and unsplit. A personal account of a tiny force sent to Baghdad from Palestine to deal with the effects of the Golden Square coup and to help the Habbaniya. The operation was a success with Baghdad falling on 30th May 1941 and saved Iraq from falling into the hands of the Nazis.

Pages and plates are bright and clear with mild foxing and tanning to text block edges, pastedowns and free endpapers. Light cracking to gutters with netting slightly exposed but binding remains firm. Boards have minor corner bumping and edgewear with mild tanning and scuffing overall. Spine has heavier tanning with soft crushing to ends. Lettering remains bright and clear. Book has a slight forward lean. Unclipped dust jacket with moderate rubbing, chipping and tearing to edges. Moderate tanning and scuffing overall with heavy loss and creasing to front panel.
