Ludlow, printed at the office of G. Nicholson, 1799.. Literary Miscellany 1799. 4 books in the volume each with its own title page with vignette, VERY EARLY PICTURE OF YOUNG GIRL USING DUMB-BELLS. Small book approximately 140 x 90 mm, 5½ x 3½ inches. Pages: Golden Verses 1-40, Songs 1-50 plus 2 pages of First Lines, Thomas Gray, xxxi, 1-32, Nathaniel Cotton, 1-84 plus 1 page of Contents, the unusual engraved plate to the title page of Nathaniel Cotton shows a family round the fireside, the daughter using dumb-bells (see image), bound in contemporary quarter calf, gilt lettered label and rules to spine, marbled boards, grey endpapers. Slight rubbing to boards, slight wear to corners, pale stain to upper and lower margins of first 4 pages and last 3 pages, old ink name and date on first pastedown, otherwise a very good copy.
