About This Item
Vienna, AU: The Golem / Printing Office John N. Vernay, ( 1925 ). First English Language Edition, regular state. Hardcover. Near Fine. 12mo, 247 pages, black cloth, tender front hinge, tight, bright.
The Golem, the legendary Jewish bogeyman. Translated by Harry Schneiderman. The stories here originally appeared in 1917 in "Oesterreichischen Wochenschrift". "One feels a kind of rapture in reading these stories. I think that the same longing for deliverance, which led our ancestors to the compiling of such beautiful tales, also transports us into a beautiful dream, makes us forget the terrible truth and thus we feel so happy in the reading of such tales!" - Dr. Isaac Alcalay, Chief Rabbi of Yugoslavia. With ten plates, including "The Golem" by Georg Jilovsky. This text shows the signs of having been printed by a non-English speller. Bloch had traveled to America to raise the funds to have this edition produced from the German original.

About Thomas J. Joyce And Company
Joyce And Company has been in business as a professional rare bookseller and appraiser since 1975. Owner Thomas Joyce was the regular book appraiser on Home & Garden TV\'s \"The Appraisal Fair\\\" program, on international broadcasts. Thomas Joyce was the co-discoverer of George Washington's personal copy of William Leybourn's 1679 edition of THE COMPLEAT SURVEYOR, from which young Washington learned some of his surveying skills at age 16. The book had vanished for nearly a century until its re-discovery in 2017. It is now back at Mt. Vernon.
