About This Item

New York: Viking, 1990 WYSIWYG pricing--no added shipping charge for standard shipping within USA. Quarter white linen with red paper-covered boards, xi, 450 pp, notes, index. Corners bumped, light bumps to edges of boards, faint watermark on top edge of rear board, ownership stamp on fpd. DJ slightly worn at extremities with a red stain on back of rear panel at top edge (barely visible on printed side); in Brodart archival cover. 'Dusko Doder ran The Washington Post's Moscow bureau during the "revolving door" years at the Kremlin when Brezhnev died and, in the space of thirty months, was succeeded by Andropov, Chernenko, and finally Gorbachev. Doder and Branson watched Gorbachev as the young leader from Stavropol became Andropov's protégé and rose, with stunning but calculated speed, through the ranks of the Moscow machine. Their view of Gorbachev is illuminated by an intimacy with the highest-ranking members of the Soviet Communist Party and with colleagues and friends of Mikhail and Raisa since the days at Moscow University when they met and he first joined the party." Much of the information in the book is from interviews conducted by the authors. Published just months before the coup that forced Gorbachev from power. Shipping weight 3 lbs. (International 2 lbs., 12 oz.). First Edition. . Very Good/Very Good. 23½ X 16 cm.
