About This Item
Definitely a 1ST EDITION! This antique 306 page hardback examines "The Problems of Life" which Westcott identifies as; self, the world and God. He suggests that the solution to life's riddles is found in Jesus Christ. In his preface he writes: "In other words, we 'walk by faith' in the face of riddles…. Christianity enters at once into the fullness of life…. For no Christian doctrine is purely speculative. No opinion as to the facts of the world if vitally apprehended can fail to influence conduct, least of all the message of the Gospel. The Incarnation binds all action, all experience, all creation to God…. In this sense, the final test of the truth and the permanence of the Gospel is life." Christ is the Gospel. Westcott finds true biblical doctrine as the key to understanding life.
Brooke Foss Westcott (12 January 1825 – 27 July 1901) was a British bishop, biblical scholar and theologian. He is perhaps most known for co-editing The New Testament in the Original Greek in 1881.
Collectible, Very good, NO notes, underlining or highlighting. NO name. There is a personal ExLibris label inside FEP. Although almost 130 years old, the spine is very good and binding tight; slightly cocked. Brown cloth with faded gilt on spine; covers show minor shelf wear—rather amazing considering its age. The text block of this beautiful book has "rough cut" or "deckled edges". The pictures depict the actual book you will receive. Ships with Tracking Number! Countries other than USA may require additional postage; sometimes substantial extra cost.
