About This Item
Melbourne: Sands & McDougall Limited, 1901. Melbourne, Sands & McDougall Limited, 1901. A large chromolithographed invitation card, recently rematted and reinserted behind glass in its contemporary wooden frame (visible image size approximately 230 × 300 mm, external dimensions 460 × 565 mm). Both the invitation and the frame are in excellent condition. An attractive invitation features a large chromolithographic illustration of the Exhibition Building, with vignette illustrations of the capital cities of Australia; the artwork is by G.B.H. Austin. 'William Lowrie (1857-1933), agricultural educationist' is how his entry in the 'Australian Dictionary of Biography' commences, but the potted history of his life and works is definitely worth reading and remembering.
