About This Item

New York: Harry N. Abrams, 1972. Hardcover. Very Good+/Near Fine. Hardcover. Most books on the Impressionists focus on their paintings; however, this one focuses on their etchings, drypoints, and lithographs. "Here for the first time are gathered together all the graphic works of five Impressionist masters - Manet, Pissarro, Renoir, Cézanne, and Sisley. The force of each artist's vision marks even the simplest etching with his unique style, affording a splendid opportunity to examine a very important facet of his total creative output ... [The text of] Jean Leymarie analyzes the contribution of each artist, placing it in both historical and aesthetic context. He also discusses many hitherto unknown aspects of the movement and its members, providing new insights into the entire Impressionist adventure. The catalogue by Michel Melot ... is accompanied by informative commentaries which illuminate almost 400 exquisitely reproduced illustrations" (jacket).

Folio. Grey cloth covered boards with gilt title to spine. Slight browning to top edge of front paste down and free end page. Very Slight yellowing to edges of pages but barely noticeable. Else is clean and bright with 391 illustrations, including 18 in full color. Fold out catalog book at rear of book so you can read the catalog while looking at the illustrations. Dark blue illustrated dust jacket with white title to front and spine panels. 353 pages + catalog. ART/062217.
