Jon Wiley & Sons, Inc, New York, 1918. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Poor Condition (ex-library)/No Dust Jacket. Illustrator: Illustrated. Preface by author and index. Throughout the text there are numerous figures and formulae. Blue coloured cloth covered boards with self embossed publisher's logo to the front panel and gilt coloured titles to the back strip. Quoting from the preface, page III, " ... This book embodies a course given by the writer for a number of years in the Mathematical Laboratory of the Massachusetts Institute of technology. It is designed as an aid in the solution of large numbers of problems which the engineer, as well as the student of engineering, mixing his work." This book is an ex-library copy – from Munitions Supply Board Library – and so is the fault of same: – library stamps, along with cancellation stamps to the end pages, title page and the rear page. Libraries sticker to the lower left hand corner of the title page and top left hand corner of the front panel. Library stamp has been placed in various pages of the book. Due back pocket still in situ to the rear free end page. There is a pocket to the rear paste-down, and within that pocket there are two scales, one logarithmic and the other for square roots – there is some creasing, stains and stamps to these to pieces of paper. Library details to the lower edge of the back strip. The book itself is showing age and use – rubbing, bumping and fraying of the back strip edges and to the book corners. Rubbing to all edges and panels of the book and the cloth of the book has started to split along the front spine gutter for 2 inches 2 1/2 inches from the lower edge. Light browning of the text block edges and age toning of the pages. Handling marks to the book are also present. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. [2], III - IX, [1], 264 pages,.
